Folklore, storytelling, and alternative narratives emerge as vital, especially in animation, where subversive expression thrives. The so-called “golden age” of Soviet animation often served as escapism, offering spaces for beauty, moral reflection, and subtle defiance. The works in the second program feature stop-motion, hand-drawn animation, and puppetry, each experimenting with its own distinctive approach. A central film in this program is TOLUBAY SYNCHY an authentic portrayal of Kyrgyz culture and the deep bond between humans and animals. The film weaves folklore and tradition into a compelling narrative, highlighting the timeless values of the nomadic society.
